Tarot

Yes or no tarot

Ask a closed question and draw one card: the answer is yes, no or not yet. Then the card tells you what to do with it.

Where the answer comes from

There's no old yes/no table: the practice comes from websites. So we wrote our own, with a single rule, applied to each card's meaning as it's written in our decks.

  • Yes, when the card's meaning opens things up: starting, moving forward, succeeding, coming together, seeing clearly.
  • No, when it closes or warns: an ending, a block, a loss, an illusion, too much weight.
  • Not yet, when it says to wait, to choose first, or that it depends on you.

A reversed card steps back one notch: yes becomes not yet, not yet becomes no. The Lenormand is never reversed.

What a card can't tell you

A date, whether someone will come back, an exam result, a diagnosis, an amount of money: no card knows that, and we don't ask it to guess. Ask about yourself instead, and about what you can do: “Is it the right time to write to them?” rather than “Will they come back?”

Frequently asked questions

How does yes or no tarot work?

You ask a closed question, shuffle, cut and draw one card. Its answer (yes, no or not yet) is in our table, and its meaning tells you what to do with it.

Why "not yet" rather than "maybe"?

Because those cards say to wait, to choose first, or that the answer depends on you. "Maybe" wouldn't help you; "not yet" tells you what to do.

Does a reversed card mean no?

Not always: it steps back one notch. An upright “yes” becomes “not yet”, and a “not yet” becomes “no”.

Do I need an account?

No. The draw and the answer are free and need no account. An account lets you keep your draws and read what the card says about your question.
